Friends in Fairyland
Mary Ann Leveck
- An Angel told me a secret. I cannot tell you. But if you look deeply into the rose, You will see me.
Do you believe in angels, fairies, or deva, those mysterious denizens of unseen worlds?
My little friend here is the 3D model of the rose angel I made from the photo above. I took the photograph of the rose, intending to create an embroidery from it. Then I heard the verse running through my mind. I looked deeply into the rose and, to my surprise, saw a little face looking back at me. Angels are a real part of our world, but they only rarely directly call attention to themselves.
Euclyptus is a deva, or angel. He is one of a series of pastel portraits with heart centers that I did in the 1980s.
This embroidery of a heart center, which I completed recently for a friend, is from a pattern I was given many years ago by a firebird deva. Tears of the heart create the music of Life.
The firebird's name is Zyp. She is the logos (inner consciousness) of our planet. She's seen here in this series of pastels with Twink. Twink represents DNA. She is a medusa. A medusa turns men to stone, or put another way, she captures consciousness in a physical body. She is what Jung referred to as the Collective Unconscious. Zyp is a firebird, or Phoenix. A Phoenix is a mythological bird which represents the Soul's attainment of higher levels of consciousness. It doesn't have a physical body, it exists in that unseen world of devas and angels. I have been visited by a Phoenix, here on the physical plane.
In the early 1990s, I bought a sand window for Terry, my then husband. A sand window consists of two pieces of glass held together by a frame. There is a layer of different colored sand between the two pieces of glass. It is fun to turn the sand window different ways to watch patterns form. Creating a particular image is near impossible. One day I discovered this image of a Phoenix in the sand window. There is no way that either of us could have created that image. I took multiple photos. It was destroyed several months later when a small guest picked up the sand window and turned it upside down.
This is a more recent representation of Zyp. It was created in MAYA, a 3D modeling software. She is more human-like in appearance. She's very ambivalent towards humanity. She views them as a spoiled child overrunning her planet, and yet she wanted her lips and nails bright red like the human girls wear. You might notice, though, that her hands and toes are three digits rather than four, which she insisted upon. It's because she identifies much closer with the birds than us.
